Samantha's Starlight journey to world tourBeauty queen Samantha Sprackling from Newick has abdicated for a chance to hit the showbiz big-time. She has won a part in the hit musical Starlight Express just weeks after leaving dance college. And those twinkle toes have danced the 19-year-old straight into a round-the-world tour with the show. Which means she'll have to surrender her Miss Newhaven beauty crown at the end of next month, six months ahead of schedule. Newhaven Chamber of Commerce, which stages the Miss Newhaven contest, says it is disappointed at the loss of its queen but delighted at her success. President Ken Northall said: "Samantha wanted a life in showbusiness and we won't stand in her way". Samantha won an audition with the Lloyd-Webber stage show after appearing in the Miss UK competition as a result of her Miss Newhaven success. She was unplaced on the night, but so impressed talent spotters with her dancing that she received two offers of work the next morning. Earlier this year Samantha won third place in the Haywards Heath Round Table's Miss Dolphin contest. Mum Tessa, of Old Acre Road, Newick, whose daughter has now moved to London for rehearsals, said: "It's all been going very well for her. She's very excited about it". The Haywards Heath Leader |
